USU Athletic Media Relations
Utah State University head basketball coach Stew Merrill announced today the upcoming schedule for the defending back-to-back Big West Conference Tournament champion, which has compiled a 56-12 record over the past two seasons including a 36-3 mark in league play and the school's first NCAA Tournament victory in 31 years. USU will play a total of 29 games during the 2001-02 season, including two exhibition games, nine non-conference tilts and 18 league games. The Aggies will have 17 games at Dee Glen Smith Spectrum, where USU has won 23 consecutive games. The Big West Conference has dropped Boise State, which has joined the Western Athletic Conference and added UC Riverside and Cal State Northridge. Along with the challenging league schedule, USU will travel to instate rivals Utah and Weber State, and will play host to Brigham Young. The Aggies also will host Idaho State, Birmingham Southern and Centenary in the eighth annual Gossner Foods Classic, Dec. 28-29. The 2002 Big West Conference Tournament will once again be in Anaheim, Calif., March 7-9 at the Anaheim Convention Center. The first and second rounds of the NCAA Tournament will be March 14-17.
