Logan Golf and Country Club clamping down on canal floaters

By Maggon Osmond

Logan Golf and Country Club has discouraged the use of the canal that runs through their property. A sign has been posted near the canal that restricts access for anyone wanting to float down the canal through the golf course.

The Logan Canal has been a popular recreation area for adults and kids alike. The canal is a nice way to cool off on the hot desert-days of Utah. The canal's easily flowing water provides a leisurely float through Logan Canyon and into Logan City.

The Canal runs right through the middle of Logan Golf and Country Club property. "We ask that people get out of the canal at the first dam," said Natalie Olsen, a Logan Golf and Country Club employee.

There is a trail at the first dam that may be used to exit the canal.

The Logan Golf and Country Club is worried about people getting hurt by off-course golf balls that may be sailing through the air. If a golf ball hits someone, the Golf Club may be liable.

The Golf Club has really started to crack down on anyone floating and exiting the canal on private property. The Golf Club has no legal jurisdiction over the canal, but they do have jurisdiction on their property. If you don't exit the canal at the first dam you must exit the dam on the Logan Golf and Country Club property. This is trespassing and the Golf Club is cracking down on trespassers.
