Can't get enough wildflowers, mountain air

Photos and text by Mike Sweeney

Some scenes from the 7-mile roundtrip to White Pine Lake:
Sunrise backlights a clump of Indian paintbrush.
As you ascend the trail, you pass through this natural doorway in a stand of white pine.
At the base of a layer of white granite connecting rock formations called Gog and Magog, surrounded by wildflowers, lies the lake.
On a windless afternoon, the rock face is mirrored on the lake surface.
