Providence urged to support plan for Cache quality of life By
Tyra Leonard
Rick Lungman, Cache Chamber of Commerce member, asked Providence for its endorsement for the Cache Valley Initiative during last week's council meeting. The three-entity initiative includes access management, telecommunications and airport, Lungman said. To make it work, he said the businesses and government must come together. "Thereıs no reason why we canıt work together," Lungman said. He said the chamberıs vision is to preserve the valleyıs quality of life, and by endorsing the initiative, the city of Providence, as well as other local governments and businesses, would share this same vision. Although monetary support is needed, Lungman said simple verbal support would "help open up doors." The first emphasis of the initiative is access management. Lungman said if something is not changed soon, several access roads through the valley could become real problem areas. "The road between Logan and Hyde Park is a concern because it looks like it might become like a Riverdale Road in Ogden" Lungman said. Telecommunications is the second emphasis. Lungman said the goal is to establish a state of the art telecommunications system with redundancy. Redundancy would allow two accesses into the valley. Utah State University and businesses use telecommunications the most and if the valley had better access, it would attract businesses. The airport is the third emphasis. The airport would have a longer, thicker, wider landing so it could accommodate smaller commuter planes, Lungman said, and become more of a regional airport. "Our airport is really an undeveloped resource," Lungman said. Lungman said he was out for the endorsement of Providence City because with the help of local government and businesses, "together we can make this thing work."
