Aggies stay perfect in BWC with victory over Broncos By

With the victory over the Broncos, Aggies improve their record to 16-2 (5-0 in Big West) and BSU falls to 10-9(2-4) and is the 26th best team in the country in the ESPN/Coaches poll. "[The Broncos] don't play like their record shows," USU shooting guard Tony Brown said. At the start of the game it began to look like the Aggies were going to walk all over BSU as Tony Brown nailed two 3-pointers to help USU go on a 12-2 run. The Broncos, who have struggled throughout the season, then showed no indication of their record as they overcame the run by USU and went on a run of their own, outscoring the Ags 14-2. USU had no answers for the hot hands of BSU's Abe Jackson and Delvin Armstrong as both players scored a combined 21 of the Broncos' 35 first half points. "We challenged their three's and they made them," USU head coach Stew Morrill said. "We lost our discipline." The Aggies came out fired up in the second half and took control of the game as point guard Bernard Rock, who had only made four 3-pointers all season long, nailed back to back three pointers to help USU go on a 9-0 run. "Bernard hit some huge threes" Brown said. Besides Rock coming up big for USU, center Dimitri Jorssen played a huge roll in the win for the Aggies as he finished the game with 15 points, including taking the ball in for a driving layup from the three point line with 6:54 remaining. "People don't expect a 7-footer to drive on them," Jorssen said. In the second half the Aggies dominated the Broncos as they shot 62 percent in the second half and held BSU to only 36 percent from the field. "It was one of those nights when our offense wins it for us," Morrill said. "Our offense was the key." In the second half USU outscored BSU by 16. Leading the way for the Aggies was Tony Brown, who finished the game with 17 points, including four 3-pointers. Brown will likely become the USU all-time 3-point field goal leader as he has now made170 from beyond the arc in his three-year career. The Aggies will be on the road on Thursday as they will play Pacific for the second time this year. USU defeated the Tigers earlier this year, 73-59. As the Aggies go to the Golden State, they will try to keep their 24-game conference winning streak alive as well as their 17-game winning streak against teams from California.
