Another big man steps up to help USU stay flawless in Eastern Division

Utah State continued to dominate the Big West as it remained the only unbeaten team in the Eastern Division and improved to 14-5 (5-0) with a 75-68 victory at Boise State on Thursday. The win did not come easy as Shawn Daniels and Dimitri Jorssen found themselves in foul trouble early. The Aggies were forced to look to big man Brennan Ray, who scored only 4 points in 28 minutes, but made his present known on the court with blocks and assists and rebounds. Ray, who is known for his physical play and hard work, comes off the bench with Bernard Rock when the Aggies need them the most. "We provide energy and excitement and like to get the crowd into the game. We pride ourselves in it," Ray said to the media after the game. Each game the Aggies play, they always find a player who can step up for them. Last week it was Daniels; this week they looked to Rock, who came away with 19 points, a new career high. Tony Brown gave the Aggies the first basket of the game as he nailed a three to start a 10-2 run. The Broncos refused to quit and made a run of their own and took their second and last lead of the game when Abe Jackson, who scored 23 points on the night, nailed a three-pointer shortly before halftime. Curtis Bobb came right back as he made a three point shot of his own. The Aggies went on a 8-3 run in the second half. Then the Broncos came right back with a 11-2 run to put them within one point, 63-62, with just under seven minutes in the game . But the Broncos never got closer. "We stuck in their we got the defensive stops at the end of the game. They were talented but we were able to step it up at the end of the game," Ray told the media. Both team shot exceptionally well. USU shot over 61 percent on the night against the Broncos, who are 11th in the nation in scoring defense. The Aggies had 19 assists on 28 baskets on the night. "We have become a good passing team," USU Coach Stew Morrill told the media. "I am pleased with the victory." Next up for the Aggies is a Sunday game against the University of Idaho. Tipoff is at 12:30 p.m. in Moscow.
