League of Women Voters Talks Issues in Cache Valley

Juvenile corrections, child abuse, and transportation are topics that will be addressed by the League of Women Voters of Cache County in the coming year. The League held their annual meeting Saturday at the Coppermill Restaurant in Logan, to discuss issues it will focus its attention on in the coming year.
"We (need) to spend our time with the youth and teens because they are our furture," said newly elected President Holly Buck. She proposed that improvements need to be made in juvenile corrections programs instead of building more jails.
Former league President Joyce Davis expressed concern that child care programs still need to be improved and the League should continue to work on setting rules and obtaining funding that determine how these programs can be improved in her annual report.
She told League members that the big red banner that said VOTE on it was donated to Utah State University. The University has an excellent place to hang it on the balcony of the Taggart Student Center and it will help encourage the students to vote.
"We want everyone to vote and in the past couple of years the young people have been disenfranchised with voting," Davis said. Educating the public on their voting choices and reminding the public to excersise their right to vote should be a league concern she added.
The League of Women's Voters is a national non-partisan organization and has had a chapter in Cache County since 1971. Their mission is to inform the public on current political issues and to encourage people to vote during the elections.
The League's next meeting will be held May 18 at noon in the Coppermill Restaurant in Logan. The League plans to discuss issues of juvenile corrections and transportation problems.
