Providence man surrenders after Sunday afternoon standoff

February 24, 2009 | A standoff between Cache County SWAT and Bryan Wrigley ended peacefully Sunday afternoon when Wrigley walked out of his house and turned himself over to police, said Lieutenant Chad Jensen.

Around 2 p.m. Wrigley got into an altercation with his wife, who left their residence and went to a friend's house where she called the police.

The Cache County Sheriff's office responded and was later assisted by Logan City Police Department and the Utah Highway Patrol.

During the standoff, local residents were evacuated to a nearby LDS church. Jensen said that few residents needed to be moved to the church since many were already attending worship services there. Cache County deputies worked with an LDS bishop to accommodate the evacuees until the situation was brought under control.

Jensen said the officers made contact with Wrigley by phone, who asked to speak to his attorney before proceeding. After talking to his attorney and again with the officers, Jensen said Wrigley walked out of his house. Jensen said there were no injuries to Wrigley, his wife or law enforcement officers.

Wrigley was arrested on counts of aggravated assault and domestic violence child abuse, both third-degree felonies; damage to communications devices and possession of a weapon while intoxicated, both class B misdemeanors; possession of a deadly weapon with intent of assault, a class A misdemeanor; and intoxication and disorderly conduct, class C misdemeanors.
