| What
makes a perfect date in Logan? Girls talk, you listen

February 20, 2009 | Male students
of Utah State University are in luck. Have any of you
guys spent countless nights trying to think of the perfect
date to take the girl of your dreams on? Is there such
a date that could exist in Logan, Utah? Search no more.
I took a completely unscientific poll on Facebook
and asked over 100 girls their thoughts and experiences
on what would make the perfect date and with their help
the perfect date lies on the threshold.
Through the series of questions asked
to the girls on locations, activities and advice, one
question stood out because it was the only one unanimously
agreed on by every single woman. It was that not one
single girl wanted to be taken to a movie theater.
"No movie theaters please,"
explained Olivia Stainbrook, who will be transferring
from Weber State to USU in the fall. Going to the movie
theater would be an instant turn-off. She went into
details about how the guy should make it personal, fun
and to not try for a kiss on the first date.
When taking a date to a movie theater
the personal touch becomes lost and the communication
layer is broken down. The so-called getting to know
you stage is delayed and it seems you're stuck with
someone you don't know all that well within an environment
where talking is frowned upon.
People need to get outdoors and construct
fun activities. In fact, an astonishing 85 percent of
the women interviewed would like to have an fun activity,
engaging conversation and the date to be located outdoors.
Jessica Meyers, junior at USU, says
"I love doing anything that you can turn into inside
jokes and enjoy the little things. Conversation is a
big key."
There is a need to get outside and
explore the many options available. "It promotes conversation.
That means, no movies or loud concerts or anything that
keeps you both from talking to each other," said Dennie
Hughes, USA Weekend magazine's contributing editor
and RelationTipswriter.
Logan doesn't have a lot of choices
as far as fine, exquisite dining. Hamilton's and Iron
Gate Grill are a little on the higher end but luckily
for the men, most women don't prefer either one. Of
the interviewees, 60 percent said if going out to dinner
was their choice they'd enjoy dinner at Cafe
Sabor, a restaurant specializing in delicious Mexican
cuisine and great prices, especially to USU students
who on Wednesday receive the college night discount.
Live bands also frequently perform Cafe Sabor encouraging
the students to come out. Cafe Sabor is conveniently
located at 600 West Center Street in Logan. The building
is actually wonderfully set on an old railroad track
giving it a lively and old-fashioned look.
"Cafe Sabor has a vibrant atmosphere
that is fun and layed back. It is an easy place to talk
and have a good time. Our staff makes people feel comfortable
and welcomed," said Marlo Wilkey, general manager of
Cafe Sabor.
Of all the dates explained, one stood
out. Erica Beckstrand, freshmen at USU, said she went
on one that they all acted like tourists in Logan. They
went and took pictures of the tabernacle, Old Main,
the temple, the mall, and the Bluebird. It was really
fun for her. Out of the ordinary ideas usually leaves
a more impressionable memory but isn't required.
The most popular and ideal date that
88 percent of the girls agreed to was a simple, cheap
date. The date consisted of a hike or drive up the canyon,
enjoying a night's fire, talking and getting to know
each other better. Next, eating a homemade dinner or
being taken to Cafe Sabor. Finally, top the night off
with a movie at either person's house and cuddling.
Jennilyn West, student at USU, wanted
to add that, "Him making me dinner would be extra special
because not all guys can cook."
Guys, you know what to do now go
out and do it. If you don't have a lot of money and
can't take her to Cafe Sabor then make her something
that she can eat and won't kill her. Outdoor activities
such as hiking, biking, fishing, ice skating, snowboarding
or walks by the dam are a must and all conveniently
located all over Logan. Don't forget to be vocal and
when having a good conversation next to a warm fire,
don't be shy to cuddle. Top it off with a movie at your
place and not one in the theaters. Oh, and don't forget
to make sure you save the kiss for another date. It'll
keep them wanting it more the next time around.
