North Logan appoints head of water committee
By Doan Nguyen
NORTH LOGAN -- Scott Galbraith was appointed chairman of the water
committee at Thursday night's City Council meeting.
Council members agreed having Galbraith, who is also on the council,
as a lead position for the city's water system committee would keep
water issues moving and retain better communication within the council
to adopt water ordinances pertaining to water rights and shares to the
city.
The water committee was created to find a location and develop a new
water source and well within the next two years.
During a January meeting Cache-Landmark Engineering presented a conducted
study on North Logan's future water rights and water demands. They evaluated
that in order to meet demands in the year 2020. The city's water supply
of four wells and a group of springs in Green and Water Canyon need
to additionally supply a flow of 708 gallons per minute to fulfill future
supply.
"The new water committee is a combination of those from the previous
water committee," said City Administrator Jeff Jorgensen who is also
part of the committee. Those involved are Mark Jensen, chairman of the
planning commission; Ross Lapray, city engineer; Bob Wilhelm, utilities;
and Terrel Huppi, public works. Residents Sherri Becker, Michael Homer,
Dale Dout and Ron Tuttle are also part of the water committee project.
Council members passed a resolution that will increase the garbage
collection fee. A 60-gallon trash bin would increase to $1.30. North
Logan pays their garbage collection fees to Logan City and had to increase
their own fees to return Logan City's current costs.
