Mock wedding ceremony gets loud, testy
By Jill Prichard
Students signed petitions Wedneday supporting "traditional marriages"
as a mock wedding ceremony drew protests on the Taggart Student Center
patio.
The College Republicans and Students for Traditional Values hosted
the faux wedding, complete with cake, to publicize their stand that
marriage is between a man and a woman.
"The silent majority can be silent no longer," said Tom Robins,
state chairman of College Republicans.
USU students lined up to gather information, show support and partake
of wedding cake with icing that read, "support traditional marriage,"
while others also gathered to express opposition. The scene turned testy
as both sides raised voices -- the event's sponsors with the help of
a sound amplification system.
The founder of Students for Traditional Values, Jason Chambers said,
"Today we the students and future of this state and country are
taking a stand."
