"We've uncovered some embarrassing ancestors in the not-too-distant past. Some horse thieves, and some people killed on Saturday nights. One of my relatives, unfortunately, was even in the newspaper business."

North Logan ponders sidewalks and zoning changes

By Doan Nguyen

NORTH LOGAN -- Council members considered proposed changes to the mixed-use zoning ordinance at Thursday night's meeting.

City administrator Jeff Jorgensen proposed the idea of having mixed-use zoning ordinance requests considered in a single case-by-case method and by a preliminary established master plan combined.

Jorgenson said changes of the mixed-use ordinance, not the zoning matrix, will require mixed-used zoning requests to go through a development plan first.

"Having each request go through the development plan first will set its own agreement," said Jorgenson.

Resident Clark Salisbury spoke at the public hearing to open the fiscal year 2004 municipal budget, and had concerns with building sidewalks along 1800 North from 600 to 400 East.

"I walk that way about three times a week and it is dangerous to those who are walking to the nearby church," Salisbury said, and proposed a sidewalk should be priority over a curb and gutter first to save money.

"I will volunteer my own labor to make the sidewalks," Salisbury said, describing that he could save the city money by doing the concrete work himself.

Proposals to the municipal budget were not passed but will continue at the council meeting Feb 19.
