"We've uncovered some embarrassing ancestors in the not-too-distant past. Some horse thieves, and some people killed on Saturday nights. One of my relatives, unfortunately, was even in the newspaper business."

It was not a normal transaction at the bank when an unwelcome guest walked into the Wells Fargo at 5 S. Main and held up an unsuspecting teller.

At 11:22 a.m. Wednesday a man walked into the Main Street branch and slid a holdup note to the teller. The note included the threat of a firearm in exchange for cash.

There were footprints in the alley behind the bank leading in that had the pace of walking, and another pair coming out with a stride of running.

There was about a two- to three-minute lapse between the robber exiting the bank, and the first officer arriving at the scene of the crime.

Officers arriving sealed and secured the bank while they gathered evidence and statements from the witnesses.

Capt. Eric Collins said, "We will work full time on [the case] until we catch him." Seven detectives have been working the case.

Logan police have received several tips in trying to apprehend the man who was caught on the teller window surveillance camera. According to the police department, the man is described as possibly Hispanic, 5-foot-8 to 5-foot-9, 140 to 150 pounds, in his 30s, slender build, sharp facial features with a prominent nose, some facial hair growth with a goatee.

Capt. Collins anticipates that citizens will be beneficial in catching a suspect.

The last time Logan had a bank robbery was in 1999, which is something that the officers "take pride in," added Collins.
