Miller brings her special touch to Hyrum government

HYRUM -- Newly elected Councilwoman Stephanie Miller brings a softer side to the Hyrum City Council. Since taking office last month, Miller has worked hard to possess qualities she thinks are important in a council member such as being unbiased, approachable and staying optimistic.
"As a council I think it is important to have different perspectives and to be able to not just look at today but look ahead at the future," Miller said.
Being involved with the city Youth Council and serving six years on the city's library board encouraged Miller to run for city council.
"The youth council is a good opportunity and shadow program to learn about our nation's government," Miller said. She is currently serving as the adviser to the youth council.
Miller's plans consist of developing a website for the Hyrum City Cemetery to help with those researching their family history. The project has received a grant to get a permanent directory of the deceased. Another one of her goals is to maintain the recreational program for the youth of Hyrum
"I think more coed sports programs would help the youth be involved with something outside of school," said Miller.
The Hyrum City Council is undergoing two main projects, the construction of a new city library and museum complex, and getting wastewater treatment plans underway. The new library and museum complex will include conference rooms, special reading areas for children, and additional parking. The construction for the library and museum complex is being funded by private donations. Hyrum city has received over $262,000 in donations and has pledges for an additional $200,000. Miller is looking forward to being involved in the council and making way for the community's future.
