"We've uncovered some embarrassing ancestors in the not-too-distant past. Some horse thieves, and some people killed on Saturday nights. One of my relatives, unfortunately, was even in the newspaper business."

New commercial building approved for Hyde Park

By Charlotte Smith

HYDE PARK -- The Planning and Zoning Council accepted the concept plans proposed by Jim Patterson for a new five-lot subdivision on 250 East and about 600 South.

The council voted to approve a commercial building plan for 200 West and about 3900 North after agreeing the parking lot should be moved 10 feet farther west. The parking lot will now be 40 feet overall. The building approved is Elder Commercial Minor subdivision and is owned and being developed by Alan Elder of Hyde Park.

The council also voted to have the City Council review the Mt. View Subdivision off of 100 West and about 400 South. Mark Lynne, council chairman, said he thinks the city council should have a public hearing to redraw the lines of the lots. Lynne said the plan could be better by making the lots that are in place larger; this will change the lots the city will have for the open space laws which is 6 percent of the area.

The only other vote at the Wednesday meeting was for a business license approval. The council voted to give Travis Mallet, who is starting a message therapy business, a license if the building he is moving into is approved by the city building inspector.

The council will be meeting again in two weeks at 7 p.m.
