Hyde Park panel approves two signs By
Sarah Mulholland
HYDE PARK -- The Hooker Appliance sign and the post office sign have been approved by the Hyde Park Planning and Zoning Commission. The permit application for Hooker Appliance was approved on the condition that the square footage has to be in compliance with the law within 90 days or the business license will not be approved. Several commission members expressed concerns of allowing businesses to display signs that are too big. They are afraid that it will become too commercialized and start to look like a bigger city, such as Logan. Gordon Bosworth is worried that they are accepting "an ordinance that we aren't going to be happy with 10 years down the road." The commission also approved the sign permit for the post office. The city has limited the number of signs allowed on the highway, hoping to not make Hyde Park look too commercialized. There is also a specific size that the signs can be. Stuart Howell, chairman, feels the regulations are getting too lenient as time goes by. "Some of us are having second thoughts," Howell said. At this point the commission has approved of these new signs, but may make the regulations tighter in the future. . |
