North Logan welcomes senior citizens' center By
Jerry VanIeperen
NORTH LOGAN -- Senior citizens of North Logan have a new place to call home. Pioneer Valley Lodge, at 2351 N. 400 East, held a grand opening party Thursday. The day was proclaimed senior citizens' day by North Logan Mayor Val Potter. Nearly 500 people attended the party, which lasted from 2 until 7 p.m. "The party was a thank you to the senior citizens of Cache Valley," said Susan Pike, a rental manager at the retirement facility. Food and refreshments were provided by visiting chefs. A variety of entertainment ranging from the Cache Children's Choir, an a capella group and a mother/daughter combination pianist and harpist were on hand for the event. Speeches were offered by Bobbie Coray and Miss Senior Utah, Joanne Rozell. David Luthy gave the invocation. Roxanna Rust cut the ribbon to commemorate the party. Smithfield Boy Scout Troop 1310 raised the flag while the mayor read his proclamation. At the North Logan City Council meeting Jan. 17, the decision to decree the 31st as senior citizens' day was agreed to unanimously by the council. The meeting was the first since Potter took office. Pioneer Valley Lodge's building spans roughly 100,000 square feet, and opened Dec. 21. There are 115 individual apartments, which range from studios, one-bedroom and two-bedrooms. Prices for units run between $995 and $2,495 per month. Residents are provided three meals each day in an elegant dining room. Laundry and transportation services are offered at no additional charge. Also included in the building are a beauty and barber shop, a game room, big screen TV lounge, and a small library. Church services are also provided inside the building. North Logan's is the third independent retirement community in Utah built by Holiday Retirement Corporation. Across the United States, Canada and Great Britain the company has more than 260 buildings and offers its residents free stays of up to a week at any of its locations. Management of the facility always welcomes the public to come take a look around Pioneer Valley Lodge. On March 2 there will be an art display open to the public. There are 430 pieces of art work in the building.
