Diversity training not required for cashiers in incident over gay display, USU says By

Both the Herald Journal and the Utah Statesman printed articles about a diversity training class that some cashiers at USU were going to be required to take. However, according to USU Chief of Staff Craig Petersen, the diversity training was only suggested, but never mandated. The controversy arsies from a display the gay and lesbian Pride Alliance had set up in Taggart Student Center that a few employees in the cashier's office, across the hall, had considered objectionable. These employees asked that a barrier be put up. That request apparently went against a USU policy. Although the request upset some of the members of Pride Alliance, no action was taken against any of the employees from the cashier's office -- and no diversity training is being forced upon anyone, either, contrary to what the newspapers said.
