Make boulevard a one-way street, residents tell River Heights By
Matthew Flitton
River Heights residents want River Heights Boulevard to be turned into a one-way street, and the city has agreed to look into the idea. Residents cited the narrowness of the road, the curves and the speed of motorists as major safety factors. "Our garbage cans have been hit twice since last Christmas," said Kerry Bringhurst, who owns a house on the road. Residents asked council members Tuesday night to make the road one-way westbound. They also asked that the intersection at 500 East and River Heights Boulevard be turned into a three-way stop to control the speed of people driving down the boulevard. Residents said people drive faster coming up the hill than going down. "It seems like the rate of speed going up (the road), they accelerate," Bringhurst said. The city council agreed to look at an engineering study of the road completed previously and see if any more studies need to be done. Members of the council and residents would like to complete the change before Logan road closures divert traffic through River Heights this summer.
