Romantic Hyde Park Lane soon may have a more mundane name By
Rachel Irvine
HYDE PARK -- Have you ever taken a drive down romantic Hyde Park Lane? If you haven't had the opportunity yet, you had better hurry because it won't always be Hyde Park Lane. The Hyde Park City Council met on Tuesday night and it was proposed that Hyde Park Lane be renamed to Center Street. Councilman Frank Ashcroft, who is in charge of the addressing system for the city, said that although Hyde Park Lane is a rustic and romantic street name, the road would better serve the city if it has a more functional name. David Kooyman said that he didn't think he could vote for an unromantic street name so close to Valentine's Day. Valentine's Day or not, the city is going to change some of the streets numbers. The city would like to have all the intersections to be numbered streets instead of names such as JFK Drive and Greystone Road. Hyde Park is using the grid system, but some of the street numbers are not accurate. This change is going to affect many of the local businesses. Mayor Daines reported that all of Hyde Park's businesses have been notified that their post office address will change. They are willing to help the city in this issue. Ashcroft also proposed that the city use green street signs. He said green signs are easier to read than the blue signs that are being used in North Logan and Smithfield. The council agreed to have the signs say Hyde Park in the corner of each sign to help eliminate any confusion for travelers. The council is looking to the future when a road is developed between Hyde Park and North Logan. Members would like to have the grid system set up so that addresses can be expanded easily and quickly.
