North Logan to begin optional curbside pickup of green waste

By Holli Gunnell

NORTH LOGAN -- The City Council passed a motion Thursday night for optional curbside green waste pickup for residents beginning in August.

Jill Galloway, waste reduction crew chief from the Division of Environmental Health for the city of Logan proposed the pickup to the council as a part of the Cache County Service Agreement. The proposal calls for green waste, which includes grass, leaves, garden remains and produce peels, to be picked up once a week along with garbage.

The service would be optional for residents and would cost $48 per year. The program would run from March through August.

Participants would be billed along with their utilities. The program would provide the participant with a free 90-gallon container to store the green waste for pick up. Each participant would also receive an annual gift certificate for free compost valued at $15 each year.
