At Whit's End: Bustin' up the
not-so-full house
By Whitney Schulte
December 11, 2008 | How rude! I'm sure that's what
Cody Herpin, Jodie Sweetin's soon-to-be ex-husband,
is thinking (or what the voices in his head can't stop
eerily replaying). Sweeten, who played Stephanie Tanner
on the show Full House, just filed for her
second divorce.
The two had only been married for 16 months. The details
in the divorce papers say their house was in foreclosure,
their water has been shut off twice, and all their utilities
are overdue. Where did all that Full House
money go?
After years of methamphetamine addiction, Sweetin
called Herpin the "blessing
who helped turn around my life." The two even had
a daughter together in April. In what seems to be the
trend among celeb (ex) husbands, Herpin says he was
"dumbfounded" about the split.
"Over this past month something has been different.
I'm concerned about our daughter and I just want her
home." According to the divorce papers, Sweetin seeks
joint legal and physical custody of their daughter,
Zoie. Herpin is seeking full custody and spousal support.
Sweetin's agent, Stella Alex, says, "Jodie's
got a huge support system in her family and friends
and she thinks this is what's best for her." Herpin
also tells People magazine that Sweetin and
her daughter have been staying with Sweetin's parents.
To Herpin, divorce is something that isn't taken lightly.
"It's
rough," he says. "It's supposed to be forever."
However, if Sweetin has anything to do with it, Herpin
isn't going to have the last word. She claims Herpin
has been out of work for months since they got married.
"He kept finding one excuse after another for his failure
to even attempt to find employment," she says. She says
the couple was kept afloat financially with Full
House residuals. Oh, so that's where it went!
In the divorce filings, Sweetin describes an incident
when she first told her husband she was going to file
for divorce and move back in with her parents. She says,
"He told me I could not take Zoie with me. He said he
would call the police and report that she was abducted
by me and seek sole custody. He grabbed Zoie from the
floor where she was playing . . . but put Zoie down
and later went for a walk."
Sweetin then took the baby and their dog and left.
Herpin, somewhat expectedly, calls this story ridiculous.
Well, for those of you who thought the middle child
drama would stop after the Full House days,
you were wrong! A hearing
and mediation session for the case has been scheduled
for Feb. 9.
