At Whit’s End: Spears looking
better, but the spark is gone
By Whitney Schulte
December 10, 2008 | Is there anyone out there who
doesn't know that Britney Spears released a new record
last Tuesday? Circus is Britney's newest attempt
at a comeback and apparently it's working for her. As
of Dec. 5, Circus was projected to sell
almost 500,000 copies in its first week. Also, for
the first time in over four years, Ms. Spears is embarking
on a 29-stop world tour.
Circus was released on Britney's 27th birthday.
To celebrate, Spears
performed on Good Morning America where
she was given a huge circus-themed birthday cake. Many
fans seemed to be a little "underwhelmed" by Spears'
performance, but excited that she looked happier and
healthier. Spears performed the song Womanizer
and the title-track Circus. She seems to have
lost that special spark she had every time she was on
stage, but her signature dance moves are definitely
back with a vengeance.
In the midst of all of Britney's "comeback" excitement,
there's also been a lot of personal drama going on with
her ex, Kevin Federline. Federline
told People magazine that Britney went
behind his back with the divorce, and that he was completely
blindsided.
Of the January night Britney was taken to the hospital
against her will, he says, "That whole night is a blur.
You want to talk about one of my lowest points of depression,
that was probably one of them. I was very, very worried
for her 'cause I care about her. That's the mother of
my children. Just because I'm not in love with her doesn't
mean that I don't love her. I'm definitely rooting for
her. There's nothing more that I want than for her to
be in the best health and doing what she loves to do."
Federline also says that things are now turning around
and that the two parents both have the same sort of
structure for the kids.
Even though Federline tried to shine a nicer light
on Spears by the end of the interview, Spears dishes
out a thinly veiled insult to Glamour magazine.
She says, "In five years I would like to be married
and have a father figure for my kids, someone who is
a provider and can be really stable. It's hard doing
it on your own."
Despite anything either of the two parents have to
say about each other, I'm just glad things are getting
better for the kids' sake. It's also great to see Britney
looking happier and healthier. When asked about
her New Year's resolution Spears says, "I would like
to stop worrying so much, because I worry all the time.
And to learn how to be happier, just in general. I have
to learn to take things not so seriously."
Sounds like a perfect fit for Britney.
