News website wins broadcasting award
December 2, 2009 | The A-TV
News website of the Journalism & Communication
Department has won first place in Region Six of the
National Broadcasting Society competition for "Best
Overall Website." The competition is open to college
and universities in California, Oregon, Washington,
Idaho and Utah.
The website is the outlet for the news and magazine
programs produced by the junior and senior broadcast
students in the JCOM department at Utah State University
as part of their curriculum. The newscasts are also
carried on the campus cable system and delivered to
the campus housing units and are also made available
to the local on-air low power television station, Channel
8.
On the website, a viewer is able to call up individual
stories, archived newscasts, bios of reporters, mission
statements of the programs, as well as link to other
university websites and services. Plans are in the works
for even more sophisticated design.
Webmaster Corinne Smith was surprised at the award,
but she says she is pleased. "I guess that’ll keep
me working hard this coming semester!" she said.
