Depeche Mode worth a road trip to end the summer

By Shawn Wolfley

For those of you who missed Depeche Mode in Salt Lake City, I am sorry for you. For those who don't even know who Depeche Mode is, I am sorry for you.

I will be the first to tell you that I am a big fan of the '80s music. This was the third time that I have seen this band, and every time they put on a great show.

They played at the E Center in late July. The E Center is indoors, so to some that makes the concert sound different than it would outside or somewhere else. I don't care where a concert is as long as I have fun and it sounds good to me.

The show didn't sell out, but it was pretty close.

I remember when I went and saw this band for the first time. Everyone was dressed up in black with make-up on and the whole nine yards -- and that was the men.

Well it was the same thing this time; everyone was dressed up like it was Halloween. I laughed about it then and I still laugh about it now, but to each their own.

The sound was as perfect. Depeche Mode has never had any problems with their sound. Not too loud where you couldn't hear them, but not too soft like you were listening to it at grandma's house.

I am glad that the band came out of retirement and went back on tour. The band consists of four members who started the group: Martin Gore, Andy Fletcher, Vince Clarke and David Gahan. They have a sound about them that I love. I like all the bands that came out of the '80s, such as The Cure, OMD, Echo and the Bunnymen, Violent Femmes and so on. So when any of these bands come to town, I know that I am going to be there.

Depeche Mode played a lot of their songs off of their new album, Exciter. I have not listened to that album at all so I did not know a lot of their songs, but who cares -- I was having a blast.

If you ever get to see them in concert go and do so. It is almost the end of the summer and they always come right before school starts up, so if they are still alive and still touring go and see them. Even if you have to travel to Denver or Phoenix.
