Utah Festival Opera finishing season on a good note By
Heather Campbell
This year the Utah Festival Opera Company is presenting three incredible operas and many of its cast members are returning from last years season. With little more than a week left, you had better grab your tickets fast as the Utah festival will soon be wrapping up its 2000 season. This year's most popular opera seems to be the Mikado with it's elaborate costumes and whimsical humor and a dragon that captures the moment and leaves its viewers in awe. A story between lovers forced into arranged marriages which the desperately hope to escape makes this great opera is exciting and animated. While Mikado captures the attention of even its little viewers, Carmen offers us the traditional love story as the adventures of Carmen, a Spanish gypsy, entertain the audience with music and dancing. And when a most unusual love triangle develops, the plot thickens keeping the audience on the edge of their seats. Last but not least there's Julius Caesar certainly the most action packed of the three. This opera features battles of both vengeance and love as Cleopatra battles her brother for the throne, seducing the great Caesar as part of her plan. In the meantime, Tolomeo and his miliatary leader seek also the praise of Caesar and the two find themselves entangled in mischievious acts in their efforts to gain the ever so sought after throne. Caesar promises audiences never a dull moment. Performance times vary featuring both matinee and evening performances. Tickets can be purchased at the Dansante building or the Ellen Eccles theatre. Ticket prices range according to seating. For more information on please call 750-0300.
