Logan to host a 'night out' against crime

By Heather Campbell

What started in 1995, has now become a tradition in Logan as the city will celebrate its fifth annual national night out Tuesday.

National night out is a nationwide event which encourages communities to take a stand against crime and drugs in their neighborhoods.

In its first year, Logan received the "rookie of the year award," for its outstanding participation in the National Night Out program, and has continued the program in an effort to increase awareness.

This year the event will be in the Fred Meyer parking lot and will feature dozens of booths with activities and information on crime prevention and safety.

Hot dogs and drinks will be offered free of charge and spectators will be able to enjoy a variety of basketball and volleyball tournaments.

A dunking booth will be set up to, "dunk a cop," and various USU athletes will be there to show their support for America's National Night out Against Crime.

Logan Cities "Night Out," is sponsored by the Logan city police department, Logan City and numerous local organizations and businesses.

The program is designed to alert people of the crime and drug problems in their communities and to generate their support and involvement in local crime efforts.
