Miller should spice up Monday Night Football

By Brett Lundahl

Although the words did not flow like one of his world famous "rants," Dennis Miller kicked off a new era in Monday Night Football with a flair that has been absent since the loss of Madden and Summerall.

Miller, the former Saturday Night Live cast member was hired by ABC to spice up the mundane, personality plagued program. Boomer Esiason was let go by the network in order to make room for Miller.

Miller will attempt to improve the banter between the announcers during the MNF broadcasts with his cynical observational humor.

The jury is out on how well the first broadcast of the new crew was presented. Miller obviously has to contain his inclination to curse a blue streak of cynicism when referring to the players, coaches, and fans.

Miller has said that he simply will not let loose with his vulgarities because he will not get paid if he does.

In the MNF heyday there was chemistry between John Madden and Pat Summerall that has never been rivaled. In an attempt to create something original, ABC has assembled a broadcast team that covers all points on the color commentator wheel.

ABC has kept the only player that was holding the MNF team together in play by play man, Al Micheals.

Micheals has been the glue that has held the broadcast team together for the last few years.

They have added youth and playing experience to the sideline with the addition of former running back, Eric Dickerson and Melissa Stark.

The executives have also covered the pure fan with the addition of the straight x's and o's man, former quarterback, Dan Fouts. A man like Fouts may be just the right neutralizer for the sharp edge of Miller.

All in all the new MNF team shows nothing but promise. Although it is risky, you must admire the risk that ABC has taken when they created this unprecedented team for one of the most important time slots in their network sports coverage.
