grocery store wants to expand
April 13, 2009 | HYRUM -- A request to expand Ridley's
Market was presented to the Planning Commission last
The expansion to Ridley's will add to the existing
Ace Hardware, which is located inside the store. The
expansion will include lumber and a semi-permanent green
house. A storefront and entrance will be added to the
west of Subway restaurant.
Manager of Ace Hardware, Eric McBride, presented the
site plan to the commission.
"I'm a huge advocate for business in Hyrum. I'm a
big believer in growing the tax base," said Councilman
There were a couple of stipulations mentioned by Bennett.
Some of the concerns included lighting, trash, landscaping,
storm water retention, barriers and outside signs that
would need to be addressed to meet city code.
City Administrator Ron Salvesen said the City Council
is the land use authority. The planning commission could
pass the plan with the stipulations and present the
plan to city council for approval.
Even with the stipulations, Bennett seemed confident
that they could be dealt with in a timely manner so
McBride could continue with the expansion and still
"keep everything kosher."
"Ridley's is an exceptional benefit to the city,"
"The thing about the hardware is they've got everything,"
said Councilman Jeff Nielsen.
"If I don't have it I'll find it for you," said McBride.
Ridley's is at 780 E. Main in Hyrum.
