Richmond
firefighters will get $9,000 surplus
By Matt Sonnenberg
April 28, 2007 | RICHMOND -- Richmond's fire department
will be rewarded with about $9,000 in funds to be made
available to the department because of the recent surplus
of money brought in by the department.
City Recorder Justin Lewis said, "Since July 1 of
2007 they've brought in $13,266 for fires that they
have fought."
Richmond's fire department is a volunteer fire department
that responds to fires on an as-needed basis and is
reimbursed by the county or the district where the fire
occurred according to Lewis.
"The Richmond City Council has chosen to allow them
to keep some of those additional non-budgeted funds
to buy equipment or other items," Lewis said. "We give
them the amount, less their cost associated. It was
determined that approximately $9,000 and something dollars
is what they're ahead income-wise."
The surplus is intended to be put towards the purchase
of any upgrades needed by the department such as equipment,
supplies, or improvements to existing equipment. All
purchases will need to be cleared by city officials
before being made.
