Liberal Patriot:

"Molly Ivins was an unabashed patriot, and it drove right-wingers nuts. Conservatives somehow got it fixed in their brains that patriotism meant being in lockstep with their ideology, that dissent was treason. Molly made a career of reminding them otherwise, always careful to point out how cute they were when they acted like fools."

--Gary Cartwright, senior editor, Texas Monthly, 2007. Molly Ivins (1944-2007), a sharp-witted and clear-eyed columnist who died of cancer last year, was an unapologetic liberal. She once observed, "There's nothing you can do about being born liberal -- fish gotta swim and hearts gotta bleed."

AT&T wants to put new cell phone tower in River Heights

By Paul Kelley

April 28, 2008 | RIVER HEIGHTS -- River Heights may be the deciding factor in whether parts of Cache Valley get better cell phone service.

The possibility of a new cell phone tower is still in the discussion stages. AT&T contacted River Heights City Councilman Blake Wright in February about a possible cell phone tower in River Heights.

Since February River Heights and AT&T have been working out the idea of the cell phone tower. If the tower were to be built in the city, it would go just south of the maintenance garage, behind city hall.

The cell tower would be 60 to 70 feet tall. Wright said, "A lot of people think it will be a big square tower." However Wright indicated it would be a single pole.

AT&T will lease the land the pole will sit on. The lease agreement would be for 30 years. The city will receive payment for the lease, however the amount has not been decided on yet. Wright indicated it would most likely be around $1,000 a month.

The cell tower is still in the discussion stages, the idea still needs to be approved by the planning and zoning commission.
