Liberal Patriot:

"Molly Ivins was an unabashed patriot, and it drove right-wingers nuts. Conservatives somehow got it fixed in their brains that patriotism meant being in lockstep with their ideology, that dissent was treason. Molly made a career of reminding them otherwise, always careful to point out how cute they were when they acted like fools."

--Gary Cartwright, senior editor, Texas Monthly, 2007. Molly Ivins (1944-2007), a sharp-witted and clear-eyed columnist who died of cancer last year, was an unapologetic liberal. She once observed, "There's nothing you can do about being born liberal -- fish gotta swim and hearts gotta bleed."

River Heights will charge outsiders who teach tennis on city courts

By Paul Kelley

April 23, 2008| RIVER HEIGHTS - If you live outside of River Heights and want to teach tennis lesson on their courts, it will cost $50.

Currently there is only one person using the courts for lessons, and she lives outside the city, reported Councilman Robert Gines. Someone who lives in the city would not have to pay the fee.

The council discussed the possibility of instituting a scholarship for the youth city council. It would be awarded to a member of the youth council each year. The council approved further discussion, however no action was taken on the matter.

Gines presented to the council that he is looking for part-time help to assist him in his parks and recreation duties. He said, "I am stepping back a little. I want my Sunday afternoons back."

Anyone interested can inquire at the River Heights city offices.
