Liberal Patriot:

"Molly Ivins was an unabashed patriot, and it drove right-wingers nuts. Conservatives somehow got it fixed in their brains that patriotism meant being in lockstep with their ideology, that dissent was treason. Molly made a career of reminding them otherwise, always careful to point out how cute they were when they acted like fools."

--Gary Cartwright, senior editor, Texas Monthly, 2007. Molly Ivins (1944-2007), a sharp-witted and clear-eyed columnist who died of cancer last year, was an unapologetic liberal. She once observed, "There's nothing you can do about being born liberal -- fish gotta swim and hearts gotta bleed."

By Paul Kelley

April 23, 2008 | LOGAN -- Marcus Simmons, 30, of Lewiston, was sentenced to six months in jail on Tuesday, and fined $850.

Simmons appeared in 1st District Court before Judge Dennis Fuchs for sentencing on charges of voyeurism. Simmons was found guilty of voyeurism, a class B misdemeanor, at an earlier court date. According to Logan City Police Lt. Peterson, Simmons was seen peeking in windows on Dec. 21 around 900 North and 700 East. Police arrested him and in an interview with police he admitted to looking into windows.

During sentencing the state asked that Simmons serve at least ten days in jail.

Simmons will be required to serve the ten days in jail; the rest of the sentence will be served on work release. Simmons will also pay all but $500 of his fine. Judge Fuchs said, "This court will not tolerate this kind of behavior."

Simmons said, "I am really sorry for what I did, I made some really bad choices, I am a new person now." According to Simmons he has, on his own been seeing a counselor for a couple months.
