April 22, 2008| LEWISTON -- Small
town grocey stores are something that is a rarity in
the United States today, but the Theurer family has
been able to make it a long lasting and profitable business.
Rick Theurer is now the third generation of Theurers
to run the market, as well as their meat packing business.
According to Theurer, the family
opened up the first store in the 1940's in Providence
and then was enticed by Lewiston to start a store there
as well. The store in Providence has since been closed,
but the Lewiston store has remained. They have also
later opened a store in Richmond.
Along with their grocery stores,
Theurers also has a butcher business that supplies meat
to various stores and restaurants. According to Theurer
their number one species is hog, mainly from Ballard
Farms, which they ship to various ethnic markets around
Utah and Idaho. They also butcher cattle and bison.
Theurer's meats are delivered to
local restaurants around Cache Valley including Angie's,
LD's and Iggie's.
The butcher business has a USDA inspector
on site every day to verify the quality of their product.
The meat business also has an on-site
store where they sell various cuts of meat to the general
public. The hours are Monday through Friday 8 a.m. to
5 p.m. and Saturdays from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.. Their grocery
store hours are from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through
Saturday.
