April 18, 2008| HYDE PARK -- Only one hurdle remains
for the 4.69-acre Gittins Heritage senior citizen housing
project and a one-acre rezone request.
The Hyde Park Planning and Zoning Commission voted
unanimously to send each project on to next week's City
Council meeting for final approval.
"They look like a good fit," said commissioner Mark
Lynne.
Gittins Heritage comprises 19 lots around 55 S. 200
West. The project includes a home owner's association
to take care of things like snow removal and lawn mowing,
making it ideal for older residents, said developer
Reed Elder, who is also the commission's chairman.
"This is mine," Elder told his fellow commissioners.
Elder abstained from voting on the project to avoid
a conflict of interest.
Next came Marilyn and Jed Murray's request to rezone
one acre of their property at 200 W. 3900 North. The
Murrays hope to build an additional home on their unusually
long and skinny lot, but cannot meet city ordinances
under current A-1 stipulations.
The commission agreed that a change to RE-20 would
allow for development within the provisions of the city
ordinances.
