Liberal Patriot:

"Molly Ivins was an unabashed patriot, and it drove right-wingers nuts. Conservatives somehow got it fixed in their brains that patriotism meant being in lockstep with their ideology, that dissent was treason. Molly made a career of reminding them otherwise, always careful to point out how cute they were when they acted like fools."

--Gary Cartwright, senior editor, Texas Monthly, 2007. Molly Ivins (1944-2007), a sharp-witted and clear-eyed columnist who died of cancer last year, was an unapologetic liberal. She once observed, "There's nothing you can do about being born liberal -- fish gotta swim and hearts gotta bleed."

Former cheerleader gets May 13 court date

By Leah Lopshire

April 17, 2008 | Tuesday in 1st District Court Charles Jerome Glover, a former cheerleader for Utah State, stood before the Judge Gordon Low for his initial appearance. He is being charged with 11 felonies in connection with fraud and one class A theft misdemeanor.

When asked by Low if he was able to afford a lawyer, Glover responded "yes," and is set to come back at 1:30 p.m. May 13 with a lawyer.

Glover, who will be 19 years old May 15, was arrested after being caught using stolen credit cards with fellow cheerleader Richard "Skyler" Nelson. The are accused of stealing the credit cards from two purses sitting unattended at the Logan Fun Park. The two are alleged to have taken the purses into the bathroom, then taking out the cards and spending approximately $1,000 between them in local stores like Wal-Mart.

The women who were robbed noticed the missing cards and reported them stolen to the police, who then checked the list of where they had been used and then looked at a surveillance video from Wal-Mart and saw Glover and Nelson using the cards.

Sgt. John Italasano, with the North Park Police Department, said, "To go and do it so blatantly and not even go out of the area where they live to do it, it's pretty stupid."

Since the arrest both Glover and Nelson have been kicked of USU's cheerleading squad.
