April 17, 2008 | Barbara Palmer, 52, of River Heights,
has been charged with one count of second-degree felony
theft. She appeared in 1st District Court Tuesday and
her preliminary hearing was set for May 8. Attorney
Dave Perry will represent her.
Palmer is accused of stealing a ring on Feb. 29 from
Rosemarie Jones, whom Palmer worked for. The diamond
and ruby ring, of which only a ring guard was recovered
from a Salt Lake pawn shop, had an approximate value
of $8,000. The 1-carat diamond was not recovered.
"I don't think we'll get that back," said Bartschi.
Palmer faces between one and 15 years in prison if
convicted.
"Confessions always help," said Cache County Sheriff's
Deputy Mikelshan Bartschi. "She was brought in for an
interview and during that interview we got a confession
that she had stolen the ring.
"It's an easy process. People feel guilty," Bartschi
said.
