River
Heights' street will get 'slow' signs, not speed bumps
By Paul Kelley
April 10, 2008 | RIVER HEIGHTS -- The drive down 700
South may look a little different in the future. Residents
living there have been complaining about speeding on
the street.
Recently a speed-monitoring device was placed on the
street to monitor the speed activity for two days. The
study revealed speeding isn't a problem on the street.
Residents are not satisfied, however.
The council presented two options: to put in temporary
speed bumps on the street, or to put up "slow children
at play" signs.
Councilman Robert Gines said, "Please do not put speed
bumps on the street."
The council decided to place four "slow children at
play" signs on the street, two facing east and two facing
west. The council also decided to place no parking signs
on the east side of 600 E. between 400 S. and 500 S.
The council feels this will help keep children safe.
The council passed a precaution in the event of a
pandemic. In the event of a pandemic River Heights will
have a two-person supply of medication. The cost will
be $330.
