Liberal Patriot:

"Molly Ivins was an unabashed patriot, and it drove right-wingers nuts. Conservatives somehow got it fixed in their brains that patriotism meant being in lockstep with their ideology, that dissent was treason. Molly made a career of reminding them otherwise, always careful to point out how cute they were when they acted like fools."

--Gary Cartwright, senior editor, Texas Monthly, 2007. Molly Ivins (1944-2007), a sharp-witted and clear-eyed columnist who died of cancer last year, was an unapologetic liberal. She once observed, "There's nothing you can do about being born liberal -- fish gotta swim and hearts gotta bleed."

Logan man fined for not responding to police

By Ashely Zarate

April 1, 2008 | Paul Riggs, a 21-year-old Logan resident, pleaded guilty to one count of interfering with a legal arrest on Tuesday at his arraignment. It is a class C misdemeanor and he has been fined $200, which he plans to pay on a payment schedule.

Riggs said he stopped by a party and as he was walking out the back door, he heard a police officer and walked back inside.

Riggs' attorney, Lee Edwards, said, "My client didn't respond to the officer because of shock and not because of guilt."

Judge Gordon Low asked Riggs a few questions about the incident that took place on Feb 8 at 10:50 p.m. Low said, "Why didn't you respond to the officer?"

Riggs said, "I was startled and in the moment. It won't happen again."
