Hearing set on sex abuse charges
By Mark LaRocco
Hyrum resident Anthony Earl Migliori, 42, made his first appearance
in 1st District Court Tuesday, facing charges of child sexual abuse
and sexual battery of a 44-year old woman.
Migliori was charged on April 14 with sexual battery, two counts of
aggravated sexual abuse of a child and three counts of forcible sexual
abuse.
At the request of Rich Gallegos, Migliori's attorney, a status hearing
was set for 1:30 p.m. April 29.
The case opened April 14 when Lt. Von Williamson of the Cache County
Sheriff's Office said that a 44-year old woman reported that Migliori
had sexually assaulted her. The charge is a class A misdemeanor.
During the questioning of the woman, deputies gathered the information
they needed regarding the continuing investigation of possible child
sexual abuse. According to the warrant, Migliori was arrested and charged
on "probable cause."
Williamson said that aggravated sexual abuse of a child and forcible
sex abuse are first- and second-degree felonies, respectively.
"The is [Migliori's] first arrest for this offense," said arresting
officer, Detective David Peatross.
Although Migliori was arrested last Monday, deputies learned that
some of the occurrences of sexual abuse date to 2000. Representatives
of the Children's Justice Center pinpointed most of the dates of the
offenses because the child recorded the incidents in a journal, said
Peatross in the Information.
Judge Thomas Willmore set bail at $50,000. When Migliori learned of
the amount, he immediately contacted a local bail bondsman and was released
on bail.
