Traffic stop produces felony drug arrest

By Rachel Jefferies

A routine traffic stop for a Logan man on Sunday ended in an exposed felony warrant in connection with the sale of marijuana.

Travis Paul Miller, 20, was pulled over for speeding by Officer Louise Scott Speth at about 1:40 p.m. Sunday. A routine check revealed a second-degree felony warrant for Miller alleging the sale and manufacture of marijuana.

The warrant was listed as an NCIC Arrest, National Crime Information Computer, which lists every national felony including stolen cars, guns and drug operations.

The warrant was issued as "a result of an undercover operation," Captain Russ Roper, public information officer, said.

The case was investigated "some time ago" by a drug unit that used an "informant" to coordinate a purchase of marijuana from Miller. The purchase was successful, but "we waited for awhile to protect the informant's identity.

"It was from this purchase that we were able to issue the warrant," Roper said.

Arraignment proceedings for Miller will be held in 1st District Court. Sentence for the felony holds a $10,000 fine and one to 15 years in prison.
