Logan police looking for biting dog
By
Hilary Judd LOGAN -- Animal Control is searching for a dog, last seen at Wilson Elementary School Tuesday after it left visible bite puncture wounds on the right ankle of a seven year-old boy. Logan City Animal Control Officer Karen Bontems responded to a call from the victim's mother Tuesday afternoon, when the boy returned home from school. The dog was no longer in the Wilson Elementary area, but Bontems took a description of the animal and advised the boy to visit a doctor, said Logan Police Captain Eric Collins. The health status of the animal is unknown at this time, but its owner has been determined. Bontems will attempt to locate the dog, and see if its shots are current, Collins said. Even if the dog is up-to-date on its vaccines, it may still carry a disease, and a requisite 10-day impounding--or quarantine--will take place when Bontems retrieves it, Collins said. The predetermined 10-day period allows time for rabies or other diseases to exhibit themselves if they are present in the animal. The dog's impounding will be at the owner's expense, and the cost is "typically more expensive than a dog-at-large fine," Collins said.
