Millville school website a tool for kids and parents By
Meghan Dinger Millville Elementary School is placing students just a click away from a plethora of educational resources. "We were actually one of the first five elementary schools to develop a webpage in the whole country," says Scott Carles, teacher and developer of the webpage. The Millville school's website, at http://205.121.65.141, was developed in the 1993-1994 school year. It contains school and faculty information, as well as several helpful search sites that can be used by students and adults. With many links to search pages, the Kidsearch icon on the main page provides students with easy access to Yahooligans, Searchopolis, and the popular Ask Jeeves for Kids site, allowing them to conduct independent searches for information. The Kidsearch icon also allows the students access to several beneficial science-related pages such as the Virtual Mummy site with computer-generated pictures of Egyptian mummies, the Earth & Sky site with a daily radio science series that discusses popular science subjects, and the Zoom Dinosaurs site with interesting dinosaur information. Not just for student use, the Millville Elementary School website is also designed for parent and faculty member use. On the adults search page, links can be found for Parenting Q & A, the ParentĘs School Journal, Common Sense Parenting, Encarta Lesson Plans, and Biographies A&E. Links to the websites of the Cache County School District and the Millville community are also easily accessible. Carles said "close to 90 percent" of the 18 elementary schools in Cache Valley now have websites.
