Rain doesn't dampen fun at Hyrum's food festival By
Shanna Nielsen HYRUM -- Whoever says there is no culture in Cache Valley apparently didn't get the chance to visit Hyrum last weekend. Besides a beautiful Latin American art exhibit, the city hosted an international food festival. The event was organized by Hyrum's Strength and Diversity committee, which is made up of volunteers from the city. "If it wasn't for the rain, I think we would have had a better turnout," committee member Margaret Arce said. There were about 12 countries represented including Korea and Mexico. The event was free and was held under tents at the city park. "It was a series of food booths," said Arce. "There were specific booths for each country." Cache Valley is the home of many international people. Ida Nkonge, an international student at Utah State University said. "It is nice when there are events like this in the valley. It brings everyone closer together." Entertainment was also provided at the park. "There was dancing and music from different countries as well," Arce said. "Some people backed out because of the rain, but it still went well." Even though the weather didn't exactly cooperate, the committee plans to host another food festival next year. "We only sold about half as much as we thought we would," Arce said. "The rain made fewer people come out. I think we will have it later in the year next time."
