Comedy Night takes a poke at Utah for charity By
Jason Robey "On behalf of those of us from Utah, welcome to our beautiful state, we hope you enjoy your stay, now shut the hell up, we're quite aware of the problems." The opening lines of comedian Rodney Norman's act that closed a two-hour laugh fest in the Ballroom of the Taggart Student Center on Tuesday night summed up the main theme of the entire evening. The show, billed simply as Comedy Night, was sponsored by the Delta Sigma Phi fraternity at Utah State and featured six comedians from Wiseguys comedy club in West Valley City and Ogden. The entire night was a benefit for the local March of Dimes. One highlight of the evening was during Craig Bielek's set, when he used a projector to show the audience Jay Leno-style newspaper clips from various Utah papers, including a recent Christmastime blooper from Logan's Herald Journal announcing "Satan's arrival" at the Cache Valley Mall. Bielek's lively, rapid-fire style followed by Norman's storytelling style, usually making fun of himself, kept the audience rolling in laughter for over an hour, hitting every subject from the Army to scented candles, which he believes should also come in "man" scents such as "Beef Jerky," "Gym-Sock," and "Fart." The first hour of the show featured several up-and-coming comedians in Wiseguys' circuit. The show was part of Delta Sigma Phi's monthlong fundraising efforts for March of Dimes, which will conclude April 27 with the annual Walk America.
