No Aggies drafted, but look for some in summer camps By
John Newbold The NFL held its NFL draft over the weekend and Utah State Aggies had some high hopes in having someone drafted. Unfortunately no Aggies got their names called. That was the bad news, but the good news was that Monday it was official that four Aggies had signed with four NFL teams. Those four were DE Nick Onaindia (Oakland Raiders), LB Tony Newson (Kansas City), TE J.R. Suguturaga (Miami Dolphins), and OG Jim Walker (Baltimore Ravens). No that isn't a misprint and I didn't leave anyone off the list. That's right -- as of today All-American running back Emmett White has not signed with any team. White was named Independent player of the year. White has been talking with the Cincinnati Bengals and is trying to work out a deal with them. White had heard before the draft that he was going to be drafted. "I expect to be drafted," White said Friday. "From what I've been told, probably in the fifth or sixth round." He also said he didn't really have a preference on where he played, but he hoped it would be a warmer climate. Onaindia was the team's third leading tackler with 65 stops from his defensive end position last year. He also led the team with 14 tackles for loss, including nine sacks. Newson played in 10 games last year, and most of those games he played with a high ankle sprain. He finished sixth on the team with 53 tackles and in his career at USU he recorded 198 tackles including 95 his junior year in 1999. Suguturaga was a versatile player for USU playing at both tight end and also fullback. This year he caught 24 passes for 201 yards. His career high was against LSU where he caught five passes for 33 yards. Walker was the team's offensive lineman and earned first-team all-independent honors and he started 19 games in his two-year career at USU. The last Aggie to be drafted was free safety Johndale Carty in 1999, who is still with the Atlanta Falcons.
