Valley residents weigh in on proposed recreation zone By
Shanna Nielsen HYRUM -- Several Cache Valley residents attended the City Council meeting Thursday to discuss the creation of a recreation and resort zone in the county. "This directly and indirectly affects Hyrum City," Mayor Olson said. The planned recreation zone would spill over onto 3,600 acres of Cache Valley. If the zone is adopted, the major application would be the south end of the valley. "I would like the zone to remain pristine," Councilman Larry G. Gittins said. A handful of Paradise resident attended the meeting to voice concern over the moutains and forests in the valley becoming urbanized, as well as the potential tax increases. "We don't want to become a playground of absentee homeowners. It'll push out residents because of the tax burden," said one. "We don't want to become another Park City or Jackson Hole." "Personally, I think we are at a turning point here," Donna Majors of Paradise said. "Do we want to urbanize or keep it agricultural? "I don't know, I just think if it looks too good to be true than you should look closer," Majors said. "There are a lot of issues that haven't been addressed." A decision regarding the creation of the resort zone will be made at a later date.
