Paradise examines master plan for growth

By Ginger Kelley

PARADISE -- A public meeting was held Wednesday night to discuss the Capital Facility Plan for the town.

The Capital Facility Plan, also known as the master plan, is for the land around the town that will be brought into Paradise within the next 20 years, said Mayor Lee Atwood. It includes tentative plans for how the land will be developed and projected costs for that, said Councilman Dave Anderson.

The meeting was held so that the town council and planning and zoning commission will have a better idea what the town wants as far as future growth goes, said Anderson.

"We're trying to get input. We need to know the direction the community wants to go," said Anderson.

The meeting was held to let people in surrounding areas and citizens of Paradise know a little bit more about what is going on, Atwood said. A questionnaire will be sent out for further input in about two weeks.

Along with the master plan a new annexation law update must be completed and turned into the State Legislature by Dec. 31, according to a document sent out by the Utah League of Cities and Towns to all counties except Salt Lake.

Ginny Tremayne, Hyrum City Librarian, also came to the meeting to let council members know that the library is looking for donations to help fund their new building. Residents of Hyrum, Nibley, Millville, Wellsville and Paradise can use the library for $30 per family per year. However, all the cities except Paradise cover that fee.

Tremayne said it Hyrum's is the fastest-growing library in Utah, with more than 45,000 books. In 1989 the library had only 4,500.

Council members said they would look into donating but did not have the funds to donate the requested $125,000 over a four-year period.

Councilwoman Margaret Obray said many Paradise residents did not know they could use Hyrum's library. Obray also asked for more facts about the building and their collections before anything is considered.
