Aggies down Weber State in tennis

By Jeff Burton

OGDEN -- In-state rivlaries are great for building your program. And for Utah State tennis coach Christian Wright, beating Weber State two out of three times this season has got to feel good.

The Aggies improved their record to 6-11 on the season with Thursday's 5-2 victory against Weber State. Earlier this season USU defeated Weber State 4-3 at the UNLV Invitational. About a month later Weber got revenge, winning in Logan 5-2.

But the Aggies got the last laugh beating the Wildcats in Ogden for their sixth win of the season. The Aggies started the match by winning two of the three matches (therefore winning the double's point) as Andreas Madersbacher and Clayton Thomas won at number one doubles and Jordan Butler and Sam Harris won at number three.

Madersbacher also won at number one singles, improving to 8-9 on the spring season. Three of those eight wins have come against the Wildcats this season. Trask also won his third singles match against the Wildcats this season, as he was victorious at number three singles, improving his team-best record to 11-6. Butler won at number four and Harris won his first match of the season, winning at the number six spot.

The Aggies have already beaten last year's overall record which was 5-10 with three matches still remaining before the Big West Championships. For Wright these wins, especially against in-state schools, continue to improve the program which he has directed for the past 11 seasons.

The Aggies will be back in action Friday, April 5, as they will host Portland State at 1 p.m.
