Amalga is a safe city to live, says Cache County sheriff By
Reuben Wadsworth
In his annual report in front of the Amalga City Council Wednesday night, Nelson said that based on statistics, there is nothing that shows a real crime problem in the city. Some crimes have increased, but only slightly. Driving under the influence citations went up in the city from 70 in 1999 to 77 in 2000. Traffic citations augmented from 138 to 145 in the same span. Drunk driving arrests have jumped countywide, Nelson said. He is not sure if there have been more incidents or if his deputies are better at catching violators, he explained. In other business, the city rescheduled its July 24 celebration from the actual day to July 21, a Saturday, because of participants' conflicting work schedules. The city received a bid of $8,650 from Ellis Equipment on its new pavilion for the City Park. Construction could begin as early as next week, said city councilman Keith Hansen. Councilman Jerry Munk said so far there are no building permits on tap for the Planning and Zoning Commission's meeting next Wednesday. The commission will, however, talk about changing some zoning ordinances regarding mobile homes and restricted lots.
